Which Carrier cooling line is right for your home?
Short answer: we install Carrier central air conditioners as a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, and Carrier and Mitsubishi Electric for ductless mini-splits. Carrier sells cooling in the same three lines as its heating equipment, with efficiency measured as SEER2.
Comfort: the entry line
The lowest upfront price, and a sensible choice when the old unit has failed and the priority is getting cooling back rather than chasing the highest rating.
Performance: the middle line
Better efficiency and quieter running than Comfort, without Infinity’s modulating control. This is where most homeowners land on a planned replacement.
Infinity: the top line
Modulating output and variable-speed air handling, so the system runs longer at lower speeds instead of cycling hard on and off. Longer run times are also what pull moisture out of the air, which is the difference between a house that is merely cold and one that is genuinely comfortable in a humid Ontario August.

No ductwork? Ductless, from Carrier and Mitsubishi Electric

What an air conditioner costs installed
In Ontario a high-SEER2 central air conditioner (SEER2 16 or higher) typically runs $4,000 to $6,500 CAD installed, and a ductless mini-split $5,000 to $15,000 CAD depending on how many indoor heads are needed. Both before rebates, last reviewed September 2026. Worth knowing: the live Ontario rebate program is aimed at heat pumps rather than cooling-only air conditioners, so if a rebate matters to your budget, ask us to price a heat pump installation beside the straight AC swap.
Brand matters. Sizing and the install matter more.
Sizing is a calculation, not a guess from square footage. A CSA F280-12 heat gain calculation takes in floor area, insulation, window area and orientation, air tightness and how many people live in the house. An oversized unit cools the air fast, shuts off before it has pulled the moisture out and leaves the house cold and clammy, and the short cycling wears the compressor out early. No brand on the cabinet fixes that.
