What to have ready when you call

• The equipment involved, such as a furnace, air conditioner, heat pump or water heater, plus the brand and age if you know them.
• What it is doing: no heat, no cooling, a leak, a noise, or an error code on the unit or thermostat.
• When it started, and what you have already checked, such as the thermostat setting, the breaker or the filter.
• A photo of the unit’s rating label, which helps the technician bring the right parts.
