When a hot water tank is past 10 to 12 years, is leaking from the base, or faces a repair that would cost more than half the price of a new one, replacement is usually the better investment. Aire One Peel Heating & Cooling installs and replaces gas and electric hot water tanks across Mississauga and Peel Region, with same-day service and a flat, written price before any work starts.

You can buy, finance or rent the new tank, or move to a tankless water heater. Our licensed technicians size the tank for your household, explain the options in plain language and quote the job as one flat price, not an hourly clock.

Hot Water Tank Repairs Mississauga

Repair or replace your hot water tank?

Many hot water tank problems can be fixed in a single visit. As a rule of thumb, once a repair would cost more than half the price of a new tank, or the tank is more than 10 to 12 years old, replacement is usually the better investment.

Call us if you notice any of these signs:

Smell gas near the tank? Leave the home and call your gas utility’s emergency line first, then call us. Gas water heater work in Ontario must be done by a TSSA-registered contractor, and Aire One Peel is one.

How a tank replacement works with Aire One Peel

Before we recommend a new tank we check the thermostat, heating element or burner, anode rod, pressure relief valve and venting on the old one, so you are not replacing a tank that only needed a part. If replacement is the right call, we size the new tank, install it and remove the old one on the same visit wherever possible.

Our licensed technicians replace gas and electric tanks and service all major brands. For more detail on common faults, see our water heater repair guide. We serve homeowners in these areas:

Hot Water Tanks: Frequently Asked Questions

What size hot water tank does my house need?

Size by how much hot water you use in the busiest hour, not by the number of bedrooms. As a working guide, a 40-gallon tank suits one or two people, 50 gallons covers most three- to four-person households, and 60 gallons or more makes sense where several showers run close together or the house has a large soaker tub. Oversizing costs money to run every day; undersizing is only felt at the worst moment.

How long should a hot water tank last in Peel Region?

Typically eight to twelve years. Water hardness is the main variable and water in this region is hard, so tanks here often sit at the lower end of that range unless flushed regularly. The other variable is the anode rod, a sacrificial component designed to corrode so the tank does not. Once it is spent, the tank starts corroding instead.

What maintenance does a hot water tank actually need?

Two things, once a year. Drain a few gallons from the bottom to clear sediment before it hardens, and check that the temperature and pressure relief valve operates. That valve is the tank's safety device, and a seized one is the most serious fault a tank can have. Every few years the anode rod should be inspected and replaced if consumed.

Should I choose a hot water tank or go tankless?

A tank is cheaper to install, simpler to service, and delivers a fixed amount of hot water quickly. A tankless unit gives continuous hot water and reclaims floor space, but costs more up front, usually needs a larger gas line and a different vent, and needs descaling in hard water. If you regularly run out of hot water, tankless solves a real problem. If you do not, a correctly sized tank is usually better value.

What temperature should my hot water tank be set to?

Sixty degrees Celsius, about 140 Fahrenheit, at the tank. Below roughly 50 degrees Celsius, tank water can support the growth of Legionella bacteria. Because 60 degree water scalds quickly, the correct arrangement is a hot tank plus a mixing valve that tempers the water going to the taps, rather than simply turning the tank down.

Can a hot water tank be installed anywhere in the house?

No. A gas tank needs correct venting, adequate combustion air, and required clearances to combustibles, all set by code and checked on inspection. The location must also let the relief valve discharge safely and allow a technician to service the unit. Where a tank is moved rather than swapped in place, expect the venting to need reworking.

What is involved in replacing a hot water tank, and how long does it take?

A like-for-like swap in an accessible basement is usually a few hours: drain and disconnect the old tank, remove it, set and level the new one, reconnect water and gas or electrical, refill, purge the air, relight or energise, then confirm no leak at the fittings and no spillage at the vent. It takes longer when venting has to change, when the shut-off valve is seized, or when the old tank must come up a tight stairway.
